An American entrepreneur called Ray Kroc came up with the McDonald’s concept in 1955, which launched the whole fast food movement over in the states. By 1958, McDonald’s had sold its 100 millionth hamburger. It took a little longer for the fast food chain to be adapted by Europe. The first McDonald’s appeared in Ireland in 1977. In that time there were a few McDonald’s innovations that originated in Ireland, including the first drive-thru restaurant in Europe, and the first McCafé in Europe. If you’ve got a big appetite but are short on time - McDonald’s offers a quick and satisfying hit. There are around 20 McDonald’s restaurants dotted around Ireland, so you’re never too far away from those golden gates when you need a meal on the go.
To keep up with changing consumer trends and wishing to strengthen the brand’s standing in a crowded market place, McDonald’s decided to offer more healthy, better quality food. Which is why you’ll see salads, wraps and classic meals with reduced calories on the menu these days. If you wish to read up on the origins and ethics behind its signature dishes, we’d strongly recommend you read the Good Stories section of the website.
