The concept behind JoJo Maman Bébé was born in unusual circumstances: during the founder’s convalescence in hospital after a serious accident. Her ward neighbour was talking about the lack of children’s and maternity clothing on the market. This was a lightbulb moment for Laura Tenison. She set about building the business in 1993, selling items from a small catalogue, from a base in London. By 1997, Laura had become a mother for the first time and started to design a nursery collection based on her own experiences and needs. She also took the company online - way before the internet became a big thing. A few years later in 1999, JoJo Maman Bébé products were being made in a massive 20,000 sq ft warehouse in Newport and Laura had built a strong link with the workforce and local community.
