Domino’s started life as “DomiNick’s” back in 1960, when brothers Tom and James opened their first store in Michigan, USA. A year later, Tom traded his car for James's share of the store and renamed the business Domino's Pizza. The three dots included in the logo represent the three stores that Tom originally planned to open. The mission was to deliver hot, freshly made pizzas, super fast. The concept of franchising was in its infancy back then, but Tom hit on it at the right time and enabled other people to invest in opening their own stores. Domino’s crossed the pond and set up in the UK in 1985, with the first store opening in Luton, Bedfordshire. There are now over 1,000 Domino’s stores across the country and around 90 million freshly handcrafted pizzas are sold to customers in the UK every year. It wasn’t until 1991 that the first Irish outlet opened in Dublin, but it is safe to say that the nation has taken to the delicious treat ideal for a night off cooking, when you're chilling out with friends at home.
